چکیده
Study sample A sample of 31 patients (18 males and 13 females; age range: 27 73 years) was enrolled in the study. Seven patients were under investigation for suspected carcinoids in different sites (caecum, appendix, small intestine, pancreas) and 24 had histologically or cytologically confirmed tumours (in 10 of them the primary lesion was excised). Power calculations do not appear to have been performed.

متن کاملScintigraphic detection of carcinoid tumors with a cost effectiveness analysis.
AIM To evaluate the diagnostic sensitivity and accuracy and the cost-effectiveness of this technique in the detection of gastroenteropancreatic carcinoid tumors and their metastases in comparison with conventional imaging methods. METHODS Somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) was performed in 24 patients with confirmed carcinoids and 7 under investigation. The results were compared with th...
متن کاملImaging of bronchial carcinoid tumours with indium - 1 1 1
Neuroendocrine tumours are characterised by the expression of high affinity binding sites for somatostatin. The detection of bronchial carcinoid tumours through scintigraphic imaging is described in two patients using the novel radiolabelled somatostatin analogue indium-111 pentetreotide. (Thorax 1994;49:284-286) Large numbers of high affinity somatostatin binding sites have been found on most ...
متن کاملCushing’s syndrome associated with typical, peripheral pulmonary carcinoid tumor and N2 lymph node metastasis: case report
Background: The bronchopulmonary carcinoid tumor accounts for 1-2% of all adult malignancies of the lung and 20-30% of all carcinoid tumors. Cushing’s syndrome is the result of chronic exposure to increased concentration of exogenous or endo-genus cortisol hormone, and it is generally associated with central obesity, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension. Treatment is based on decreasing cortiso...
متن کاملSmall bowel obstruction by a terminal ileum carcinoid tumor: a case report
Abstract Carcinoid tumors are well differentiated neuroendocrine tumors with secretory components. These tumors are uncommon but the most common primary tumors of the distal small intestine. We present a rare terminal ileum carcinoid tumor presenting with a small bowel obstruction. A 65 years old man presented with intermittent, gen-eralized, dull and colicky abdominal pain accompanied with int...
